Curriculum 2028 sets the direction. Sentinus makes it practical.

As schools begin preparing for the proposed Northern Ireland Curriculum 2028, teachers and school leaders are considering what a more knowledge-rich, purposeful, progressive and coherent curriculum will mean for learning and teaching in their classrooms.

The proposed curriculum places emphasis on carefully sequenced knowledge, clear progression and meaningful connections in learning. It is intended to provide greater clarity about the core concepts pupils should learn, while allowing schools flexibility in how they teach them.

That’s where Sentinus can help.

Our Ready for Curriculum 2028 Teacher Professional Learning workshops combine curriculum understanding with the thing Sentinus does best — practical, engaging learning that teachers can take back into their classrooms.

We are initially offering two primary TPL workshops, with a further workshop coming soon:

Customised TPL sessions for your school

Sentinus can customise a full day of Teacher Professional Learning, from our two streams, STEM Ready and Digital Ready

STEM Ready

Knowledge-rich STEM learning in practice

STEM Ready helps primary teachers explore how purposeful, hands-on STEM experiences can build knowledge, deepen understanding and give pupils meaningful opportunities to apply what they know.

The proposed curriculum describes knowledge-rich learning not as rote learning or memorisation, but as deep understanding, meaningful connections and learning that builds over time.

Our workshop takes those principles and explores what they can look like in practice.

What will STEM Ready explore?

Knowledge-rich STEM

Explore practical approaches that help pupils develop secure understanding of STEM concepts rather than simply completing an activity.

What will your staff take away?

STEM Ready is designed to be more than a one-off workshop.

Teachers will:

  • experience practical STEM activities and challenges they can adapt for their pupils;
  • explore approaches to knowledge-rich and purposeful STEM learning;
  • consider progression and sequencing across Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2;
  • develop confidence in making meaningful connections through STEM;
  • receive practical resources to use back in school, supporting continued delivery and helping embed STEM beyond the workshop.

The workshop is just the start.

Our aim is to leave your staff with the confidence, practical approaches and resources to continue building STEM learning in their own classrooms and across the school.

Who is STEM Ready for?

Primary teachers | Foundation Stage | KS1 | KS2 | STEM Coordinators | Curriculum Leaders | Whole-school staff teams

STEM Ready can be delivered as part of whole-school TPL or School Development Days.

Digital Ready

Building teacher confidence for Digital Technology

From Digital Users to Digital Makers

Digital Technology represents one of the clearest changes within the proposed Curriculum 2028.

Previously, digital learning was dispersed across the curriculum and expectations could vary. Under the proposed framework, Digital Technology has a clear curriculum home, knowledge builds progressively over time and pupils receive a common entitlement.

For primary teachers, that creates both an exciting opportunity and an understandable question:

What will this mean in my classroom?

Digital Ready is designed to help answer that question.

This practical Teacher Professional Learning workshop helps primary staff understand the direction of Digital Technology within the proposed curriculum while building the knowledge, confidence and practical approaches to bring it to life with their pupils.

No specialist computing background is required.

Understand it. Explore it. Make it practical.

The proposed curriculum recognises that young people need to understand how technology works, not simply how to use it, reflecting the growing importance of areas such as data, Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity.

Digital Ready helps make that ambition accessible to primary teachers.

Explore the three proposed Digital Technology strands

💻 Computing & Digital Systems

Build confidence in helping pupils understand the technology around them.

Explore age-appropriate approaches to concepts including digital systems, programming, data and networks, moving pupils beyond simply being users of technology.

🎨 Digital Creation & Communication

Explore how pupils can use digital technology purposefully to create, communicate and solve problems.

The emphasis moves from simply consuming digital content towards pupils becoming confident and thoughtful digital makers.

🛡️ Digital Ethics & Responsibility

Technology brings opportunities — but also responsibilities.

Explore ways of developing pupils’ understanding of responsible and ethical participation in the digital world and helping them make informed choices about technology.

Digital Ready introduces these concepts in a practical, accessible and age-appropriate way, helping staff develop their own understanding before considering how they can bring that learning into their classrooms.

The aim isn’t to turn every primary teacher into a computer scientist.

It’s to give every teacher the confidence to get started.

Building progression from Foundation Stage to KS2

What will your staff take away?

Teachers will:

  • understand the direction of Digital Technology within the proposed Curriculum 2028;
  • explore its three proposed curriculum strands;
  • build confidence around programming, digital systems, data, networks and AI;
  • experience practical, age-appropriate approaches to Digital Technology;
  • consider progression and sequencing from Foundation Stage through KS1 and KS2;
  • receive practical resources to take back into the classroom, supporting continued delivery and helping embed Digital Technology beyond the workshop.

The workshop is just the start.

We want teachers to leave feeling that they can do this.

Your staff will leave with practical resources, greater confidence and approaches they can continue to develop — helping build the capacity within your school to make Digital Technology part of confident, everyday classroom practice.

Who is Digital Ready for?

Primary teachers | Foundation Stage | KS1 | KS2 | Digital/ICT Coordinators | Curriculum Leaders | Whole-school staff teams
