Sentinus, in conjunction with Ulster Wool, is giving schools the opportunity to participate in a project based learning programme which aims to educate children about wool, where it comes from, how it is treated and processed and its potential uses.
The programme aims to help young people understand how wool has been an important natural resource for humans for thousands of years and continues to be so up to present day. Commencing with a practical workshop in school, delivered by Sentinus, pupils will embark on an investigation to discover factors which influence how wool is used and the process it has to undergo before it ends up in some familiar products.
This project will allow teachers to link classroom learning to all areas of the World Around Us area of learning, including history, geography, science, technology and maths. Each school will be provided with materials and wool samples to allow investigations to be carried out.
Schools participating in the programme will display their project work at a celebration event which will take place at the Balmoral Show in May 2024.
Registration for the 2024/25 programme will go live soon.
